Easter Secret Box

Hello!  

Today's the 4th Tuesday of the month!  That means it's time for a new inspiration challenge at the Magnolia-licious Challenge Blog. This is my DT project for the Challenge.

This project is inspired by this photo chosen by the lovely Angela, who is our hostess for the month of March.  To me this picture screams EASTER!  Easter eggs, pastel colours, spring, flowers...

Here's a picture of the top of the box.  Sitting here is Tilda and Her Bunny.  This image is from Magnolia's  Butterfly Dreams Collection 2011.

On two sides of the box--opposing sides--I have a Tilda image each.  This one below is Tilda With Hanging Rabbit.  She is also from the Butterfly Dreams Collection 2011.

And this one is Teddy Bear Love from the Princes and Princesses Collection 2012.

The stamps for all these adorable images are available from Magnolia-licious, Diana's on-line store for anything and everything Magnolia.  She has a huge collection of their full-size and mini stamps. Check them out and while you're on site, don't overlook those Memory Box and Poppystamps dies--they're exquisite!

The other two sides of my box have this same floral arrangement.

Heather Perreaux calls this her 'Secret Box'.  Secreted inside the box are 3 trays.  I think this is so cool!  I think I am going to make a couple more of these boxes for Easter.

Heather has a tutorial on a how to make a 3-inch cube box at the Splitcoaststamper website HERE.  And I did make her box first, but the box was too small--those yummy Lindt Easter eggs just wouldn't fit...LOL.  So based on the same the concept, I made a this box that is 1 1/2 times higher.  And...woo-hoo... the eggs now fit!  Also I can now use the standing Tildas to decorate the box.

Do you recognize the background DP's that I used on the sides and the inside of the box?  If you're a Maggie lover, they should look familiar to you.

LOL...reduce reuse recycle.  I have LOTS of these.

A Mother's Day Round Side-Step Card

This Mother's Day card is the end result of my doing a tutorial on how I do my round front-panel side-step cards.  I've posted the tutorial just previous to this posting--see below or click HERE if you're interested.

This adorable Magnolia princess is called Princess of the Valley.  She is part of Magnolia's newest Princes and Princesses Collection 2012.  Have you seen the rest of the collection?  Oooh, they are all just as adorable.  Check them out at Diana's on-line store, Magnolia-licious.  You will find that Diana has a huge inventory of regular-size and mini-size Magnolia stamps and doohickey cutting dies.  Don't overlook her selection of dies from Memory Box and Poppystamps--they're exquisite!     

I've mainly used my markers to colour Tilda and my coloured pencils to add some shadings.

Round (Shaped) Side Step Card Tutorial

Hello.

This is in response to a few requests on how I did my round front panel side step card, picture below, posting HERE.

This is the basic template.  You can probably figure out how to make the card from this template, but for those of you who needs step-by-step instructions, I've got lots of pictures below--I'm not very good with instructions...LOL.  And refering to the template as you follow the pictures will probably make it easier to understand.

You start with your cut-out shape--which is a circle in this case.  I don't have the size of the circle written down, because this method will work with any size circle.  So take any size circle you want to use.  I will show you later on that this method will work with any shape also, not just circles.

The first thing to do is to draw a line exactly halfway between the top and bottom. 2 ways of doing this:

1st method:

When cutting your circle/shape, line your cardstock with a copy/writing paper so you get an extra circle.

Fold the extra circle in half and line it up with the cardstock circle and mark the half way points.

 Then draw your halfway horizontal line. 

2nd method:

Simply centre your circle on the grids of your cutting mat and draw your halfway horizontal line.

Refering to the template above, we now draw the vertical cut line and this has to be perpendicular to the horizontal line (at 90 degrees).  So line up your horizontal line of your circle along one of the horizontal grid on your cutting mat and then draw one vertical line.

Where you draw your cutting line doesn't really matter.  I like mine to be 1/2 inch (1.3cm) from the centre, but as shown below, you can move it further to left or right.  The picture below is only for show so just draw only ONE line.  

Line up your halfway horizontal line along one of the grid on your scoreboard as shown below. Score from the cutting line to the edge of the circle.

Score 1 inch (2.5cm) to the left of the middle line, from the cutting line to the opposite edge of the circle

Line up the very right edge of your circle with one of the grid lines of your scoreboard. Score 1 inch (2.5cm) from it

And then again at 2 inches (5cm).

Cut along the cut line from the first score line to the last score line.

It should look like this now.

Mountain fold and valley fold as shown.

Voila! Here is the base of your round front-panel stair-step card.

Now gather all your stuff to decorate your card, eg. DP's, image, embellishments, etc. and decorate!

And this is what I ended up with...a Mother's Day card for my Mom. I'm going to put it in a posting next. 

I said earlier that you can use this concept with any shape and any size.  To show you, I've cut out a few different shapes of different sizes from dies that I have.

Oh so soon!  I don't usually do a posting one day after another one, but this is the 2nd Tuesday of the month, so it is time for a new colour challenge at the Magnolia-licious Challenge Blog.

My DT card for this challenge is this criss cross card.

The super talented Angela is our hostess for the month of March and her challenge is to use 3 colours of the rainbow.  Here's a picture to help you decide which to choose.  For my card, as you can see, I've chosen purple, blue and green.   

Being featured on the front of my card is this adorable Tilda Catching Stars from Magnolia's newest stamp collection, Princes & Princesses Collection 2012. Many more oh so cute images from the collection.  I can't wait to colour them.  You can check them out at Magnolia-licious, Diana's on-line store. She has a fabulous collection of full size and mini stamps, doohickey cutting dies and magazines. Also available are those exquisite Memory Box, Poppystamps and Marianne Design dies, and other crafting tools and products. Check them out HERE.

The criss-cross panels form a pocket and I've made a pull-out tag to be inserted into the pocket.

I've chosen another Tilda from the new collection for my pull-out.  I chose this Sweet Princess Tilda to match the first TIlda because she is also carrying a star wand--I'm keeping to the star theme...LOL.  I left a blank space to write personal messages.  I'm thinking that this card can be used as a graduation card.
