Love Blooms...Lever Card - Magnolia-licious 'Fancy Folds'

Hello.

We're starting a new challenge at the Magnolia-licious Challenge Blog.  Our new theme is 'Fancy Folds' which is a real favorite of mine.  To get the complete details on the challenge and how you can play along, visit the Magnolia-licious Challenge Blog.

Check out the fabulous cards/projects that my DT teammates have created for your inspirations.  Both Team A and B are here today.  Normally Team B would post next Tuesday, but we're having our Winter Blog Hop next week...woo-hoo, fun time!  Be sure to come back next week!

I found a card style that I haven't used before--it's called a Lever Card.  I found the tutorial at Splitcoaststamper done by Laura Lipe--you can view it HERE.  I liked the multi-fold feature of the card so I just have to make one.  Laura's card size is 4¼" x 5½".  So yup, you guessed it, I adjusted it to my preferred card size of 6" x 6".

The centre panel is a 'lever' that fits into the front window--thus the name.

Don't you just love this style?
I didn't put any embellishment inside the card because I didn't want to cover up the gorgeous designs of the papers.  Someone sent them to me--I forgot who--and I don't know who makes them as I couldn't find the manufacturer's name on the papers.

Tiny Paper Pinecone Tutorial

Hello.

Someone asked me if I can do a tutorial on how I made the tiny paper pinecones that she saw on a card I posted sometime last year HERE.  And since it's nearing that time of year, you may want to make some for your own cards.

Materials and tools required:
Kraft cardstock
Spellbinders Classic Scalloped Circle Large die set (2nd smallest circle--2 1/8" in diameter)
Scissor
Dark-brown marker
Stylus and molding mat
Q-tips
Glue
Small flower punch

What we're doing is basically creating our own spiral diecuts out of scalloped circles.

Instructions:

Step 1
Die-cut scalloped circles from kraft cardstock--you need 1 circle for 1 pinecone.  Use the 2nd smallest circle in the Spellbinders Classic Scalloped Circles Large set--it's about 2 1/8" in diameter (or something similar).

Step 2
Draw on a scalloped circle as per picture below.  Cut along the drawn line.

Pinecone Template in PDF (scanned to size)

Use this first one as a template to draw on the other scalloped circles. (You also may want to keep it for future use.)

Step 3
Using a dark-brown marker, draw a scalloped line below the scalloped edges, off-setting the arches as shown.

Step 4
Colour in the area below the drawn scalloped line.

Step 5
On a molding mat, run a stylus (small ball) along the scalloped edges, pressing firmly to give them a bit of a curl.

Step 6
Cut as shown to create the individual pinecone scales/petals.

Step 7
Curl/cup each scale with your stylus (medium ball) as shown.

Step 8
Apply glue along the inner edge as shown.

Step 9
Placing a Q-tip against the longest scale, wind the rest around the Q-tip.  Make sure the scale you're glueing are off-setting the ones above.  If it isn't quite off-set, tear it off from the spiral and reposition it.

Step 10
Cut off at the base of the pinecone.

Step 11
Punch out a small flower (or something similar) out of kraft cardstock.  Cup it with a stylus on your molding mat.  Adhere to bottom end of your pinecone.

Voila! There's your pinecone!

and more pinecones...

I've also made this video.

Or you can watch it on bigger screen on YouTube HERE.

That's it.  Happy crafting!

Booo! - Magnolia-licious 'Halloween'

Hello.

We're midway in our current 'Halloween' challenge at the Magnolia-licious Challenge Blog.  The DT gals from our Team A posted their inspirational cards last week, so today it's Team B' turn.  Visit the Magnolia-licious Challenge Blog for complete details on the challenge and how you can join in the fun.  Don't forget to check out the fabulous cards that my DT buddies have created to inspire you.

And so...here's my DT card.

This is a tent card...and wouldn't you know it, it's actually the first tent card I've done...or at least the first I've posted on my blog here.   It's a wonderful cardstyle because you can give a more 3-dimensional look to your scene.

Some details here on how the scene was created.
I started the background scene with a piece of orange cardstock.  I glued a yellow circle diecut for the moon.  I rubber-stamped the Treeline Silhouette then added a front row of Scary Fence (made with a Martha Stewart edge punch)--hmm...I don't think you can make out this fence in the pictures above.

For the foreground scene, the branch is a die-cut, but the wooden fence was made from cut strips of dark-brown cardstock glued together.  The cat and crow silhouettes were cut out by hand--I googled for their shapes.  The jack-o-lantern pumpkin was hand drawn.

Hello!  Happy Wednesday!

It's time for another "W"ednesday Post at the Magnolia-licious Challenge.  Wednesdays are when the DT gals take turns showcasing on our cards the other stamps beside Magnolia stamps that the Magnolia-licious on-line store carries.  Today it's Katie's and my turns to participate.

It is actually a shaped easel card.  And I went with autumn colours as it is that time of the year.

I'm featuring this adorable fairy called Posey designed by Sylvia Zet of Wee Stamps.

The stamp for this image is available from Magnolia-licious.  You can see the rest of the Wee Stamps collection HERE.

Magnolia-licious, Diana's on-line store, of course carries Magnolia stamps, both full-size and minis.  If you don't see the particular one you are looking for, ask Diana if she can bring it in for you.  Check out also the stamps from Wee StampsWild Rose Studios, Candibeans and now Saturated Canary!  Prices are discounted!
