Shaped Easel Card

Hello.
I've got my latest card to show you.  Whenever I don't have a special occasion to make the card for, I usually like to make birthday cards, as those are always in demand...LOL.

The image I've used here is of Tilda With Apple from Magnolia's Sweet Crazy Love Collection 2012. I've altered the image a bit.  In the original image, Tilda has an apple with an arrow through it on her head.  I've also done some masking and stamp a background image of Open Gate from the Hoppy Easter Collection 2010.
I've done the colouring using my Letraset Promarkers and Trias markers.

I've made this into an easel card as I haven't done one of those for quite a while now.

Views from different angles...

The image beside the sentiment is of the Mini Tilda With Heart from the You Are So Special - Mini Collection 2011.  All the images I've used here are available from Magnolia-licious, Diana's on-line store.  She has an excellent selection of other Magnolia images also, both full-size and mini-size, as well as other crafting tools including those exquisite Memory Box and PoppyStamps dies.

Another Birthday Swing Card

Hello.
Here's another swing card I've made--with a different-shaped centre panel.

This one is in one of my fave colour combo--teal and brown--and I am also using a DP that I just luvvvv.....and woo-hoo I have lots of them 'cause I stocked up when they were on sale...LOL.   I've used the Tilda with Butterfly Jeans image for the front of the card--from Magnolia's Butterfly Dreams Collection 2011.  Images for this card were coloured with markers (colours listed below at the end of posting).

For the flip side I've used this adorable image of Bridesmaid Tilda from Magnolia's Wedding Collection 2010.  For creating the centre panel, I was trying a new shape and used the Spellbinder Grand Labels Four die.

I've decorated the card with die cuts made with an exquisite Memory Box die called Valencia Border available from Magnolia-licious--I love this die.  Not only can I use the gorgeous swirly design (middle of the card), but I can use the pieces inside the swirls.  They're gorgeous too and I've used them at the sides of the card.  Waste not want not!

By the way, both these Magnolia images of Tilda and the Memory Box die you can get from Magnolia-licious. Check out the fabulous collection of full-size and mini-size Maggies that Diana has, as well as the selection of dies--Memory Box, PoppyStamps and Magnolia Doohickies--and other crafting tools.

Wrinkled Flower Coloured With Distress Ink Tutorial

Hello.
A few requests on how I made the large flower in my previous card.  This would be sooo...much easier if I have a camcorder..LOL, but since I don't here goes...

Not sure what to call the flower, but wrinkled flower is as good as any, I guess...LOL.

Materials:
white cardstock
flower dies/punches (preferably 5/6 petals)
distress ink pad and dabber
spray bottle filled with water
1/8-inch circle hand punch
piercing tool
medium size brad
half pearl

The paper I used is my basic white cardstock that I used for my cards, AC Cardstock 80 lb.--I think this is similar to your Bazzill cardstock.

You need some kind of flower dies or punches.  Doesn't matter which one as long a you have a succession of 4 different sizes.  I used Crealis Creative Flower No. 06 dies. A few other that comes to mind are the Spellbinders Rose Creations dies, Spellbinders Posy Patch dies, EK Success Retro Flower punches.  You only need one of each size, but if you want a fuller flower, you can include more layers.

With your distress ink pad (any colour you want) and dabber, dab some ink in the centre of each flower.   (I made my own dabber by wrapping a makeup sponge around a piece of dowel and tied it in place with a string--ingeneous, eh? LOL)

Stack the flowers together and punch a hole in the centre with your hand punch, or you can pierce a hole with your piercing tool.

Push the brad through the hole and secure the brad.  Arrange the layers so the petals are staggered.

By spraying water from your spray bottle, dampen the flower enough so you can see the colour from the ink start to spread/bleed.  I think I sprayed 3 spritzes at the back, 3 on the front and a few more between the 2nd and 3rd layers.

Starting with the smallest flower, bring the petals up around the brad.  I used my piercing tool for this one.  Do the same with the other layers.  And then scrunch/squeeze them together as shown below. Squeezing it tightly will give you the wrinkles and will further spread the ink.

With your piercing tool uncurl the petals one by one.

Shape the flower the way you want it to look when dry, eg. spread the petals if they are too scrunched up, curl the ends up a bit, etc. Let dry completely--this will take a while.

When completely dry, remove the brad.  Glue the layers together.

Place a large half pearl in the centre as your flower centre.  You can use other type of flower centres or even just leave the brad in place.

And voila!  You're done!!!

Here are pictures of some flowers using different distress ink colours, different dies and different numbers of petals.  For the flowers at the top I used 4 petals.  The flowers at the bottom are fuller and for those I used 2 layers of the largest-size petals.

Using the Crealis Creative Flower No. 06 dies...

colored in aged mahogany, dusty concord, pine needles, wild honey
A more 3-D view to show the layers...

Using the Spellbinders Rose Creations dies...

colored in victorian velvet, broken china

Using the Spellbinders Posy Patch dies...

colored in barn door, rusty hinge

Happy creating!

Bee Happy - Magnolia-lious May Inspiration Challenge

Hello.
It's time for a new inspiration challenge at the Magnolia-licious Challenge Blog.  Here's the card that I came up with...

Maria is our May hostess and she has chosen this picture for your inspirations.  I hope you will join us in our challenge and for more inspiration hop over to the challenge blog HERE and check out the fabulous cards of my DT teamates.

I am seeing a lot of black, black frames, embossing and a variety of colours.  So I have put those elements into colouring my images and the design of my card.  This is of course a side step card.  And here viewed from a different angle...

I've been looking at all the way that people have been colouring this Magnolia image of Honeybee Tilda.  Mostly she was coloured either all in yellow or in yellow-and-black stripes all over.  In keeping with the inspiration picture, I used a lot of black instead.  I was trying to make her look like a real bee.  LOL...me thinks she looks like a Michelin man.
The background image is called Meadow Daisy from the same collection.
The images for this card were done with coloured pencils except for the dotted background which was done with markers. I've added glitter to the wings.

Both the Tilda and the background images are from the Summer Memories Collection 2012 and both are available from Magnolia-licious, Diana's on-line store.  Click HERE to go to her store and also check out other adorable images from Magnolia, both full-size and mini-size.

I had time to finish the inside of my card this time, so I've decorated it this way.

I found another Tilda image to put in the inside that I thought would match the one in front.  This is Tilda With Bee from the Chasing Butterflies Collection 2009.

Stamptacular Sunday Challenge #164 - In the Garden

Diamond Fold Card

Hello!

Woo-hooo...I've made a diamond-fold card--my first!!!  This card style was on my to-do list, so now I can put a check mark beside it...LOL.

I haven't made this card for any occasion so I didn't put any sentiment on it.  I just wanted to know how it works. I watched the first half of this video tutorial on how to make the folds and then ignore the rest and decorated it my own way...LOL.

I consider this more of a mini card rather than a full size one, because when the card is all folded up, it becomes a 4-inch square card--you need a smaller box envelope to mail it out.

This adorable image is of Celebration 1 Tilda from Magnolia's Sweet Crazy Love Collection 2012.  She is coloured with markers.  I used the Old Swedish Lace Border doohickey die to border by circle panel.  Both  image and die are available from Magnolia-licious on-line store.

Not really sure what the proper way is to display this card, so I'm trying different ways here...

Challenges for this card:

Oldie But A Goodie Challenge - Die Cuts and Punches (all of the materials and tools used are more than 6 months old)
